2018-12-02: First PC build

It was time for me to jump ship from the Apple ecosystem and embrace the world of PC gaming. I'd been watching a lot of LGR and Tech Tangents (although the latter was still called AkBKukU at the time), particularly their retro PC builds, and that somehow twisted me into building a modern system, go figure...

The specs I ended up going with were:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 2700X
  • ASRock B450 Pro4
  • KFA2 GeForce GTX 1070 Ti EX
  • G.Skill 16 GB Ripjaws V, DDR4 3200 MHz, CL16
  • Seasonic 750 W PRIME Ultra 750 Gold
  • Fractal Design Define R6
  • 2 × WD 240 GB WD Green, 2.5″ (for dual booting Windows 10 and Ubuntu)

There were also some other components like a Blu-ray drive and a Wi-Fi card and a collection of second-hand HDDs... At the time, the total cost for me was 1,505.50 € + an additional 45 € a couple of days later when I realized I wanted a gaming mouse as well (ended up going with a Logitech G502).

The build process was relatively painless, but as it was my first time, it took some beer:

The machine posted on first attempt.
